Get An Advantage With The Right MBA Application Essay
More and more colleges and universities are offering graduate programs for getting a master’s degree in business administration (MBA). Not only is this program open to many working people with different academic and personal backgrounds, it also brings a lot of lucrative possibilities for a person’s future. MBA programs have the potential of increasing a person’s salary level so these programs tend to be competitive and have a lot of applicants.
However, a news story broke in 2010 about an admissions board for a business school in Pennsylvania who found several plagiarized application essays for its MBA program. As a result, any MBA application or an application for any graduate program is undergoing a lot of scrutiny.
Applying for graduate school
Most graduate programs assign a topic or a question to be answered in the application essays. Although most of these assigned topics are autobiographical in nature, such as questions on goals and experiences, the application essay is a way for the applicant to demonstrate his or her suitability to the graduate program.
An MBA application is not so different and in writing the essays, the applicants should show that they are a good fit to the MBA program. However, in many such programs, there is a wide variety of applicants, in terms of having different countries and cultural backgrounds, not to mention in terms of accomplishments. A good application essay should stand out.
Good application essays
Basically, an application essay needs a statement of qualifications and work experience, plus managerial experience in a professional setting. On top of this, the applicant should also show that they have the technical expertise and interpersonal skills needed to have a top management position.
Application essays for MBA programs are more important than entrance exam scores in many cases since it is expected by many admissions boards that applicants will have a high score. Thus being able to show one’s managerial skills and communication ability in the essays is important.
It is tempting to include professional-sounding passages from business references in MBA application essays. This is not bad, although these should be well-cited in order to avoid plagiarism. However, since other essays can also have these passages, they can make the essays lose their uniqueness and ability to capture the interest of the reader.
Going to B-schools
More and more people are applying for business schools because it can bring possibilities of a brighter future. With so many rival applicants, it is best to try to stand out.
